Parenthood’s Defining Moments: Halloween C is for Cookie
Beyond the sheer fact of having and raising a child, what defines you as a parent? You know, those day-to-day things that make you use hashtag momlife online and maybe roll your eyes a little. For my good friends, it was trading in their sports car for an SUV when their baby was born.
For me, I had one of those defining moment today. It was cookies. Yes, cookies. Sweet tooth aside, I had to bring something for the Halloween party at Jonah’s daycare. Since he was dressing up as Cookie Monster, cookies with googly eyes seemed liked a perfect compliment. I consulted my good friend, Pinterest, and found this adorable inspiration. Cookie Monster inspired googly-eyed cookies:
Well, turns out when you make cookies in the morning with a 1 ½ yr old running around full speed, you end up burning half, deforming the other half, potentially forgetting to add baking powder (or was it baking soda?), and realizing you forgot to buy the googly eyes in the first place. And when you try to be a “good parent” by involving your kid in the activities, you age about 20 years due to the cloud of flour that settles upon your head.
The end result wasn’t exactly like the inspiration, but I knew I gave it a good shot. As “Cookie Monster says, C is for Cookie and that's good enough for me!” Hopefully this translates in some way to my parenting experience.
Check it out – not great, but good enough:
Cookies were a defining parental moment for me today – a moment in which I was exhausted by 8 am, covered in food, and looking frazzled, but overall very proud of my accomplishment. #momlife
P.S. My little (cookie) monster – this was the only pic I got where he is not yanking off the costume!
